Press: American Heart Association Recognizes NuStep’s            Wellness Program

October 9, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI - The American Heart Association recently recognized NuStep, Inc. for their efforts in promoting a culture of fitness and creating a healthier workplace for their employees.

NuStep earned a “gold-level” award for their participation in American Heart’s Start! Fit-Friendly Companies program.  The Start! Fit-Friendly Companies program recognizes organizations that demonstrate leadership and commitment in making the health and wellness of their employees a priority.  The program was initiated by American Heart to encourage organizations to create physical activity programs and promote a culture of activity to counteract the effects of sedentary jobs and inactive lifestyles.

The Start! Fit-Friendly Companies program recognizes companies that work to:

  • Offer employees physical activity support
  • Increase healthy eating options at work
  • Promote a wellness culture
  • Implement additional activities, as outlined by American Heart, in areas of physical activities, nutrition and culture

“It is gratifying to receive recognition for our wellness program, but the real reward is having our employees take advantage of our programs and seeing the positive outcomes,” says Jennifer Brant, NuStep’s chief financial officer.

NuStep’s wellness program offers new employees three one-hour training sessions with a personal trainer and a one hour one-on-one coaching session with certified nutritionist. All employees are eligible for free smoking cessation programs, free flu shots, 30-minutes a week paid exercise time in the company’s fitness center, 100 percent reimbursement  for AED/CPR and first aid training and 50 percent reimbursement on wellness activities (e.g., gym memberships, fitness classes, weight loss programs) up to $200 a year. In addition, NuStep periodically offers other on-site health and wellness classes, clinics and seminars.
